Our Treatment Philosophy

Inflammatory periodontal disease (gum disease) is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that individuals who have lost their teeth and wear dentures (plates) have considerably less chewing efficiency and will unconsciously avoid the more nutritious foods that require good chewing. This has raised concerns and has been implicated in being responsible for low levels of nutrition. New studies have also appeared relating a possible link of inflammatory periodontal disease and loss of teeth to 1) cardiovascular disease and 2) pregnant mothers having pre-term low birth weight babies. Therefore, we strive to maintain the natural teeth in health and function as well as recommend replacing the missing teeth where possible with prosthesis to improve the patient’s quality of life.

Our basic treatment philosophy can be best described as “conservative as possible” to accomplish the goals. The patient’s understanding and input with his or her desires and concerns are most important to us and in determining the therapy. Our team consists of periodontists who are Diplomates of the American Board of Periodontology and extremely capable dental hygienists supported by dental assistants and administrative staff. All are caring, friendly and gentle in their approach. Dental and medical treatment is stressful to many patients and nitrous oxide gas or other sedation procedures can be employed to help alleviate the anxiety.
